Our Promise to You

Password Hosting Done Differently

Unlike the big password managers, we won't lock you into a closed app and quietly hike the price once you depend on it. SantoWarden runs Vaultwarden — an open-source server that speaks the exact same protocol as Bitwarden. Your apps don't change, your workflow doesn't change, and your data stays yours. Export the entire vault to standard Bitwarden JSON any time and walk away.

At SantoHost, your vault is yours alone, your data is encrypted before it ever leaves your device, and our focus is simple: keep it private, backed up, and online. You shouldn't have to pay premium prices for open-source software — and here, you won't. As a privately-owned small business, our promise is always to our customers, never to shareholders.

You Own It

Your vault runs in its own isolated instance at your own subdomain — not a shared database you can't see into.

No Lock-In

Export to standard Bitwarden JSON or CSV any time. Works with Bitwarden.com, any Vaultwarden host, or a different manager entirely.

Backed Up & Monitored

Daily encrypted offsite backups and 24/7 uptime monitoring — we're paged before you'd ever notice a problem.

The patron saint of password privacy

Some call me a saint.
I just call it standards.

SANTO is not a coincidence. It is a standard. The kind of devotion that keeps me up at night over a cipher setting nobody else even noticed.

I have spent more than 20 years in web hosting, and I have been a hardliner about strong encryption and privacy for every one of them. Security is not just part of the job for me. It is closer to a personality flaw.

I did not build SantoWarden to get rich. I built it because watching people hand their most sensitive data to corporations that treat privacy as an upsell bothers me in a way I cannot fully explain to normal people. Every vault here is zero-knowledge, end-to-end encrypted, isolated in its own container — locked down as tight as the math allows.

“Not even I can read your vault. Zero-knowledge is not a feature I offer. It is a promise I cannot break, because the encryption does not give me a choice — and I built it that way on purpose. Privacy is not a premium feature, and I take that personally.

Bluehost, HostGator, Site5, iPage, Domain.com — all the same company. GoDaddy, DreamHost, Media Temple — all publicly traded or private-equity owned. When your ticket sits unanswered for three days, that’s a shareholder decision, not a staffing accident. SantoHost has no shareholders. No board. No quarterly targets. Just a dedicated team who picks up the slack because they answer to their customers, not corporate greed.

What that means for you A host that answers to customers, not shareholders. Experience the difference of a host that’s invested in your success.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Keep every Bitwarden app you already have — iPhone, Android, Chrome, Firefox, desktop. Nothing changes except going into Settings, choosing Self-Hosted, and entering your server URL. Takes about 30 seconds per device.

You are never locked in — full stop. Export your entire vault at any time in standard Bitwarden JSON or CSV format. That export file works with Bitwarden.com, any other Vaultwarden host, or even a completely different password manager like 1Password, Dashlane, or KeePass.

To export: log into your vault → Tools → Export Vault → choose your format.

Vaultwarden is an open-source reimplementation of the Bitwarden server API, written in Rust. It runs the same protocol, accepts the same clients, and returns the same responses. Bitwarden themselves list Vaultwarden as a compatible option in their official self-hosting FAQ. Every account gets its own subdomain with a wildcard TLS certificate — nothing for you to configure.

No. Your vault is encrypted on your device with your master password before anything leaves it. We receive and store an encrypted blob we cannot decrypt — the same zero-knowledge model as Bitwarden.com. Your master password is never sent to us and never leaves your device.

Technically possible, practically very unlikely. Bitwarden explicitly lists Vaultwarden as a compatible option in their official documentation, and one of Vaultwarden's active maintainers is employed at Bitwarden. Blocking third-party servers would contradict their open-source identity. We monitor Bitwarden client releases and keep Vaultwarden updated to maintain compatibility — and if you ever wanted to leave, your export works everywhere.

Yes. You may ask for a no questions asked refund within the first 14 days. After that, if you're not satisfied you can export your vault and cancel at any time. Because you're never locked in, you keep every password no matter what you decide.
Bitwarden is still the best. Just stop paying them too much for it.
